With spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) is spreading across the globe, all important social, entertainment and sports events have been canceled. Everyone is worried and uncertain about the situation. With no social interactions, working from home and being worried about your family members can definitely affect everyone negatively.

Research Questions 
  • What are the basic reasons behind the panic surrounding COVID-19?

  • What emotional comfort people are looking for?

  • What are the dominating emotions? 

  • What are people looking for and what they need in this situation?

Survey Overview

We designed a survey to understand how people are feeling during these extraordinary circumstances. An overwhelmingly good number of  responses for our survey around the world. People from different ages and working in different industries participated in our survey.

Emotion Analysis

Similar concerns and feeling were being observed through out the world. This uncertain situation increasing the rate of anxiety and their worry for their loved ones. Quarantine / social distancing had caused to develop more negative emotions as per the survey analysis.

User Interviews

Getting in-depth knowledge of ways of humans expressing their emotions during this pandemic period and their way of dealing with the situation and empathize about the same.

Insights
  • All participants had similar feelings of being disturbed, anxious and worried about future.

  • Trouble with focus and concentration

  • Staying up with current affairs is good but it can also cause some unnecessary stress & anxiety

  • If the situation is going to stay the same for a long period of time, people worry that they can suffer with serious mental health issue.

Future Takeaway

Understanding the emotions and providing positive news is the main focus of the project. In future, it would be interesting to incorporate facial recognition to understand true emotions of a user.  Hence, I would like to understand the technology behind facial recognition for the better results for the product as well as the user.
